U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is introducing a new version of the citizenship test, which we will refer to as the "Pilot Test". This pilot test has 100 U.S. history, civics, geography, and government questions. USCIS started to administer the pilot test to about 6,000 volunteer citizenship applicants in 10 cities beginning in early 2007. The new pilot test has questions that focus on the concepts of democracy and the rights and responsibilities of citizens. In designing the pilot test, USCIS received assistance and worked with test development contractors, U.S. history and government scholars, and English as a Second Language experts. They also sought input from immigrant advocacy groups, citizenship instructors, and other stakeholders. During the pilot test introduction USCIS has improved the test with input from the stakeholders and test development contractors. They have reduced the number of questions from an initial 142 to the current 100 questions you will find on the Socrato web site. Socrato has modified the official citizenship tests (both the current/old and the pilot/redesigned) by reformatting some of the questions into multiple-choice format to make practicing easier. To review the actual questions, please see the redesigned/pilot test and the old/current test. For more details, such as determining which test you will take, please see http://www.uscis.gov/natzpilot.
